McDowell County EDA Supports Sandy River Little League with Crucial Facilities Upgrade

In an impactful display of community support and commitment to the wellbeing of our youngest athletes, the McDowell County Economic Development Authority has made a significant contribution to the Sandy River Little League (SRLL). Understanding the essential needs of our community sports programs, the EDA has donated $25,000 towards building bathrooms for the league’s facilities.

Addressing a Critical Need

The lack of proper bathroom facilities at the Sandy River Little League fields has long been a concern for players, families, and spectators alike. Recognizing this need, Coach Dennis Roberts took on the challenge of seeking support, reaching out to various community leaders and organizations. His dedication to improving the conditions for the young players of McDowell County led him to the EDA, known for its consistent support of local children and community events.

A Generous Donation for Essential Amenities

The donation was celebrated in a heartfelt ceremony, marking a milestone in community support and cooperation. EDA President Barry Hale and new Commissioner Dewayne Dotson were present to personally hand over the $25,000 check to Coach Dennis Roberts. This moment was captured in a photo that included Commissioner Michael Brooks, further illustrating the collaborative spirit of McDowell County’s leadership.

The Impact of the New Facilities

With this generous donation, the Sandy River Little League will now be able to construct new bathroom facilities, greatly enhancing the experience for all who come to enjoy and participate in the games. This development not only improves the physical infrastructure but also promotes a more inclusive and accommodating environment for families, ensuring that players and guests can focus on enjoying the sport.

A Commitment to Community and Youth

This initiative by the McDowell County EDA highlights its ongoing commitment to not only economic development but also to fostering a nurturing environment where young talents can thrive. Commissioner Dotson remarked on the occasion, “Supporting our local youth in sports is crucial. It teaches them teamwork, dedication, and the importance of community.”

Looking Ahead

As the new facilities are developed, the Sandy River Little League looks forward to welcoming more families and supporters to their events, confident that their improved amenities match the spirit and passion of the players and the community. The EDA remains dedicated to supporting projects that enhance the quality of life in McDowell County and uphold its mission to assist in the growth and development of the community’s future leaders.
